Completely Bespoke Designs
At Caltherm every product we design is unique. There are no standard sizes as we work with our customers from start to finish to ensure the product they get is exactly right for them.
We Won’t Over Spec
When buying from other companies with standard designs you are often left with a product that is over designed for your application. At Caltherm, because every product is designed with your process in mind, if you don’t need it we won’t sell it to you! We will ensure that the product does exactly what you need it to do, without any unnecessary features that bring you over budget.
On the same note, we will also ensure that the product comes with everything you do need including any safety features.

We Don’t Do Anything Else
At Caltherm, the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of bespoke ovens and furnaces is our only focus. With staff across the company dedicated to one goal, delivering a product that is right for the customer.
Things to Consider When Buying an Oven or Furnace
Temperature
What temperature does your process require?
It is tempting when looking to price an industrial oven or an industrial furnace to overestimate the temperature requirements, however, by doing this you are unintentionally adding to the cost. The best way to get an accurate price is to find out the exact temperature required.
An oven will run from ambient up to 650°C whereas a furnace will run from 500°C to 1300°C.
Once an oven reaches approx. 350°C the internal lining will need to be changed from aluminised steel to stainless steel, therefore you will see a significant price increase.
For example, the price difference between 100°C and 200°C would be negligible, whereas, the price difference between 350°C and 450°C would be substantial.
Therefore, it’s always best to know what is required. However, if you don’t know, we will be able to point you in the right direction. So don’t be afraid to ask.
Size
How big does the oven need to be?
At Caltherm we will ask you the required internal dimensions for the oven.
Working out the internal dimensions for your oven or furnace is fairly simple. As a general rule, if you don’t know what size the oven needs to be, take the largest product that is going to go into the oven and add 100mm on each dimension.
For example, if your product is 500x500x500mm, you are going to need an oven 600x600x600mm.
Don’t forget to consider the loading technique for the product. E.g., additional room for trolleys etc.
If your oven needs to be calibrated with a temperature uniformity (e.g., +/- 5) then this area would need to be expanded by approx. 400mm.
Therefore, the Calibrated area would be 600x600x600mm, whereas the actual chamber dimensions would be 1000x1000x1000mm.
If you don’t know the size of the oven required but you do know the product size just send this to us and we will do the working out for you.
Speed
How quickly does the oven or furnace need to reach temperature and how long does it need to stay there?
If you have a set process time that you need to work to let us know and we will do our best to ensure that we meet your requirements.
Temperature Uniformity
Some standards such as AMS2750G (used within the Aerospace industry) call for ovens and furnaces to be calibrated to function within a certain temperature range. For example, 250°C +/- 3°C.
All our ovens will have a certain element of uniformity (approx. +/-5°C to +/-10°C) as standard. All the above means is that the oven will be calibrated and certified to your chosen standard.
If you require temperature uniformity or you are working to a certain specification or standard just let us know. At Caltherm we are familiar with all the industry standards and have vast experience designing and manufacturing ovens to suit.
Access
Where does the door need to be?
As standard a box oven will have a manually operated, single hinged door to the front. However, there are plenty of options if this doesn’t suit the environment or the size of the oven. Please note that we recommend, where possible that double doors are avoided as single doors offer better temperature uniformity, as well as a cost saving.
Double Hinged Doors – We can provide double doors where a single door would take up too much space when opened.
Vertical Hydraulic Doors – We can provide any oven with a hydraulically operated vertical door. Ideal in situations where space is tight and in larger applications.
Sliding Hydraulic Doors – We can provide any oven with a hydraulically operated sliding door. Ideal in situations where space is tight and in larger applications. Also available in double configuration.
Doors to Front and Back – Referred to as a “Tunnel Oven” we can offer manual or hydraulic doors to both sides of an oven, ideal for loading in one end and unloading out the other.
Top Loaded Ovens – Our top loaded ovens or “Well Ovens” have the choice of an open top, hydraulic pivot lid or sliding lid available in single or double versions.
Heating Media
Electric or gas-fired are the most common, however, we are experienced with thermal fluid, steam and indirect gas-fired.
The heating media required really depends on the facilities on site therefore the more we know at enquiry stage, the more accurately we can price an oven/furnace with the most economical heating media for you to run.
Price/Budget
Do you have a budget in mind?
Although it can be tempting to keep your budget to yourself, it is best to let us know what parameters you are working within so that we can work to come up with a realistic offer that fulfils your requirements.
Once we know all your requirements, we will work with you to offer you a product that suits your application AND your budget.
Doors & Lids
At Caltherm, we offer a wide range of doors and lids, to suit every application.
Manual Hinged Doors – As standard, a Box Oven will come with a manually hinged door with heavy duty brass hinges and rotary pressure latch.
Double Hinged Doors – We can also provide manual hinged doors in double configuration where space is tight. We do, however, recommend where possible that a single door is used as this gives better temperature uniformity results and is more energy efficient.
Hydraulic Vertical Doors – Caltherm can provide the option for a hydraulically operated vertical door. These doors are ideal for Large Ovens or where space is tight to the front of the oven.
Hydraulic Sliding Doors – We can also provide the option for either single or double hydraulically operated sliding doors. Again, these are ideal for Large Ovens or where space is tight to the front and above the oven.
Open Top – Our Top Loaded Well Ovens can be open top for ease of access up to temperatures of 100°C.
Hydraulic Pivot Lid – The most common lids for our Top Loaded Well Ovens are hydraulic pivot lids. These are available in single or double configurations; however, we would always recommend single where possible as this gives better temperature uniformity results and provides a better energy efficiency.
Hydraulic Sliding Lid – If space above the Top Loaded Well Oven is an issue, then hydraulic sliding lids can be used. These are available in single or double configurations; however, we would always recommend single where possible as this gives better temperature uniformity results and energy efficiency.

Vacuum Systems
Vacuum systems reduce pressure which allows water to evaporate at a lower temperature. Typically used for delicate components, vacuum systems can also be added to Box Ovens and Composite Curing Ovens.
Other Components & Extras
Caltherm offer a wide range of further components and extras. All our ovens are bespoke, therefore, please get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
Viewing Windows – Viewing windows can be installed so that the process inside the oven can be viewed from the outside.
Lights – Lights can also be installed for better visibility inside the oven.
Trolleys, Mechanical Loading and Product Shelves – At Caltherm, because all of our products are completely bespoke, we can incorporate a loading system to suit your application. Whether this be a simple trolley, or a more complex mechanical system, we will work with you to come up with a practical solution. We can also incorporate product shelves to suit the dimensions of your product.
Man in Oven Grab Wire – All of our larger ovens (over approx. 1500mm high) are quoted to include a man-in-oven grab wire as a safety feature. When pulled the grab wire will shut off the oven process and sound an audible alarm.
Thermocouples – Thermocouples are used to measure the temperature inside the oven within different areas. With applications that require temperature uniformity, Caltherm will use thermocouples to complete a 9-point temperature uniformity survey (TUS). Thermocouples can be supplied with our ovens for further on-site temperature monitoring along with connector panels/plug sockets.
Solvent Extract Fan, Airflow Switch and Explosion Relief Panels – In applications where solvent gases are produced, we recommend installing a solvent extract fan (to safely remove any solvent gases), an air flow switch (which will stop the oven from running in the event that the extract fan fails) and explosion relief panels (in case of explosion the relief panel will blow minimising damage to the oven)
Controlled Cooling – Controlled cooling is offered using motorised inlet and outlet dampers to moderate heat escaping from the oven and ambient air entering the oven.
Rapid Cooling – Rapid cooling is offered using the same method as above but with the addition of a motorised fan.
Quench Tanks – Quench tanks can be added underneath the oven (Top hat or drop quench) or in front of the oven dependant on the application. We can also include cooling and water agitation pumps where required – this is a must have when compliance with AMS2770 is required.
Control Panel – Control panels are quoted as standard however we can supply our ovens without if required. As standard the control panel will be mounted to the side of the oven, but we can also provide these free standing. A Standard control panel consists of:
- Door interlock Isolator
- Motor Contactors
- Motors MCB’s
